Alaska Summers: A Season Worth Protecting

Government and Politics

July 17, 2025

There’s nothing quite like summer in Alaska.

From midnight sun hikes to salmon runs, berry picking, and family picnics by the water, Alaskans know how to make the most of these bright, fleeting months. Our landscapes come alive — and so do our communities.

But Alaska summers are more than beautiful. They remind us of what’s worth fighting for.

This year, lawmakers have stood up to protect the land we love and the people who call it home. While others played politics, we delivered for Alaska - taking action on climate, subsistence, clean energy, and environmental safeguards that help ensure the next generation can experience these summers too.

Defending What Makes Alaska Unique

This session, we’ve helped secure key victories that reflect our Alaska way of life.

Protecting Wild Salmon and Subsistence Rights:
We pushed for stronger habitat protections and upheld the rights of rural communities who depend on fishing for food and tradition. These protections aren’t just policy - they’re about preserving a way of life passed down through generations.

Investing in Clean Infrastructure:
With bipartisan support, the state advanced investments in renewable energy and rural infrastructure, helping communities reduce their dependence on costly outside fuel sources and creating local jobs in the process.

Holding the Line on Climate Action:
While others looked to roll back environmental standards, we held the line. We defended clean water protections, resisted harmful development that puts ecosystems at risk, and prioritized long-term sustainability over short-term profits.

Standing with Alaska Families and Communities:
From securing permanent increases in education funding to expanding rural broadband and public health access, we didn’t just talk about improving quality of life — we passed legislation to make it happen.

Summer is a Time to Reconnect - and Recommit

As you’re out exploring trails, fishing with family, or soaking up the late-evening sun, we hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on what Alaska means to you - and how we can protect it together.

This land, this light, this way of life - it’s all worth defending.

Let’s keep working for a future where every Alaskan, no matter where they live, can enjoy the season and the opportunities it brings.

Because Alaska is worth it. Every acre, every river, every summer.
