The second annual Version restaurée returns to spotlight recent restorations with seven films, all significant rediscoveries. Opening with Louis Malle’s A Very Private Affair, and featuring works by Claire Devers, Julien Duvivier, and Jean-Luc Godard, the series highlights major works from across the French-speaking world.

Films in the series include: A Very Private Affair (Vie privée, Louis Malle, 1962), Black & White (Noir et Blanc, Claire Devers, 1986), Ramparts of Clay (Remparts d'argile, Jean-Louis Bertuccelli, 1969), The Big Night (Le Grand soir, Francis Reusser, 1976), Our Music (Notre musique, Jean-Luc Godard, 2004), Head of the Pack (La Course en tête, Jöel Santoni, 1974) and Boulevard (Julien Duvivier, 1960).

The Films of Sophie Fillières

October 14–November 11, 2025

Sophie Fillières (1964-2023) wrote and directed a small and exceptional series of films in her too-short career. This Life of Mine, which premiered at Cannes in 2024, was completed posthumously by her family and crew. She was an integral part of the Young French Cinema movement, a 1990s correlative to the 1960s New Wave, quietly crafting sharp, bittersweet, sometimes absurdist women’s pictures. Though slightly under the radar in the US, we are thrilled that these wonderful films will solidify her place as a great contemporary auteur.

Films in the series include: This Life of Mine (Ma vie ma gueule, 2024), When Margaux Meets Margaux (La Belle et la Belle, 2017), If You Don't I Will (Arrête ou je continue, 2014), Pardon My French (Un chat, un chat, 2009, 35mm), and Good Girl (Gentille, 2005, 35mm).

Directors' Fortnight Extended New York

October 31–November 6, 2025

L’Alliance New York partners with the Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des cinéastes) to present a special selection of films from the 2025 Cannes Film Festival program.

Since its founding in 1969 by the French Directors’ Guild, the Directors’ Fortnight has served as a vital and boldly independent counter program to the Cannes Film Festival, and it’s now hitting the road in New York and Los Angeles.

The two-film series at L’Alliance New York will feature the New York Premiere of Her Will Be Done (Que ma volonté soit faite) on Friday, October 31 at 7pm—presented in person by Directors’ Fortnight Artistic Director, Julien Rejl, and Program Advisor, Jordan Cronk—and the East Coast Premiere of Wild Foxes (La Danse des renards) on Thursday, November 6 at 7pm.

Director’s Fortnight Extended is presented by the Quinzaine des cinéastes, Roxy Cinema, Acropolis Cinema, and L'Alliance New York.
