June 23, 2025
From: Maryland State Arts CouncilAs we roll into summer, I’m excited to share that June marks my one-year anniversary with the Maryland State Arts Council! Time truly flies when you're doing meaningful work surrounded by passionate colleagues and inspiring artists across the state.
This past year has been extra special for me—not only because I joined MSAC but also because I made the big move back home to Baltimore after 33 years in the Atlanta area. As a former Western Dove, it’s been a joy to reconnect with my roots, spend more time with family and former classmates, and rediscover the charm, creativity, and community that make Baltimore City and Maryland so vibrant.
When I’m not coordinating Council meetings or assisting our multi-tasking guru and Executive Director, Steven Skerritt-Davis, you can find me baking sweet treats, exploring artsy corners of the city, or planning my next weekend adventure. I love blending creativity into everything I do—which makes being part of MSAC such a perfect fit.
Warmly,
Leslie Gillard
Executive Assistant & Council Liaison

Supporting regional placemaking in Prince George's County
Grants Director Cathy Teixeira (center) joined the "Making the Case for Funding Place-Based Work" panel at Joe’s Movement Emporium earlier this month to share insights on crafting competitive proposals for placemaking and community-led projects. The discussion was part of "The Vision is Yours," hosted by the Neighborhood Design Center.
