Meals on Wheels America News - Deadline Approaching: Protect Meals on Wheels Funding

The clock is ticking. Congress must take action on funding for the Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Program by Sept. 30, when current funding expires. This funding is the very foundation that federally powers Meals on Wheels nationwide. 

Millions of older adults face food insecurity, uncertain if or when help will come - and tens of thousands are already stuck on waitlists for Meals on Wheels. Local programs have continued to face devastating choices: cutting back services, turning people away or, in some cases, closing their doors entirely. Rising food and operational costs mean the dollar isn’t going as far, and flat funding is not enough; we need Congress to provide increased sustainable funding. 

Without this, we will fall further behind. 

This is the moment for every voice to be heard. If lawmakers don’t hear from their constituents loud and clear, seniors’ needs could be overlooked.
